William WALKINGTON Architecte D.A.N.*

William Walkington studied at the Department of Architecture of the University of Nottingham in England where he was admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) in Architecture in 1974, and to the degree of Bachelor of Architecture (with Honours) in 1977.
During his studies William Walkington participated with success in national architectural and planning competitions in England and was awarded:
- the 1st prize in the Letchworth Garden City Corporation « Town and Country Tomorrow » Competition (a sustainable development group project in 1976)
- the 2nd prize in the « Facelift 79 » Competition (individual project in 1979).
Between 1978 and 1980 he assisted Eli Abt R.I.B.A. at St Albans, Hertfordshire, UK.
Between 1980 and 1983 he was initiated to French architecture while working in various offices in France.
Between 1984 and 1985 he worked for Conran Associates – designers for the enterprise – (a subsidiary of the Habitat Group) at Paris.
Between 1985 and 1995 he was an architect of Babylone Avenue Architectes (a subsidiary of the Swiss Group Suter+Suter) a multi-disciplinary team of architects and planners at Lyons, France.
Between 1996 and 2004 he moved to Reunion Island where he worked as a freelance architect for different local offices including DPV Architecture, at St Paul (a subsidiary of the Savannah Group), and Les Architectes de l’Epéron, at St Gilles Les Hauts. Additionally in private practice he worked on habitation projects (apartment buildings and individual houses), and between 2001 and 2004 he also intervened as an external English professor at the Réunion Island Branch of the École d’Architecture Languedoc-Roussillon.
In 2005, after having decided to return to his Celtic roots, William Walkington chose to move to Morlaix in Brittany where he created SCOTIA SARL d’architecture and became the managing director of the enterprise.
